IL BRANO DI RANDY NEWMAN SI È AGGIUDICATO L’ OSCAR COME MIGLIOR CANZONE
Ancora una volta Randy Newman, ancora una volta con un cartone. Il celebre pianista e compositore americano, noto per la sua ironia tagliente e sagace, si è aggiudicato ieri sera un premio Oscar per il miglior brano originale con We belong together, contenuto nella colonna sonora di Toy Story 3, il pluripremiato cartone Disney-Pixar che ha vinto anche nella categoria miglior film d’animazione. Il cartone era inoltre candidato (cosa mai avvenuta prima) nella categoria miglior film, accanto al trionfante Il discorso del re.
Siamo alla seconda volta per Newman, come anticipato, visto che il musicista di origine ebraica aveva già vinto un Oscar nel 2002 per il brano If I didn’t have you; anche in quel caso si trattava di un brano contenuto nella colonna sonora di un film d’animazione: Monsters & co. La sua attività di compositore di colonne sonore è in realtà decennale (è cominciata già dagli anni ’70) e vanta al suo attivo un brano come You can leave your hat on, portato al successo dalla reinterpretazione di Joe Cocker in 9 settimane e mezzo.
Questa volta Newman è riuscito a convincere l’Academy con la leggerezza briosa che gli è caratteristica: questo è il suo marchio di fabbrica su We belong together, una canzone sull’amicizia allegra e spensierata, tipicamente pop ma dal retrogusto rythm’n’blues.
